May 4th Saint Conleth

200px-St-conlethSaint Conleth was a bishop in 5th/ 6th century Ireland and was buried in 519.   He is known to have been and hermit, metal worker and close friend of Bridgit of Kildare.  It was Bridgit of Kildare that persuaded St. Conleth to serve as the priest and bishop of her convent.  He eventually became the first Bishop of Kildare.

Saint Conleth was a skilled metal worker and craftsman.  A crozier made for St. Finbar by St. Conleth is preserved this day in the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin.  He was also a gifted copyiest and illuminator of manuscripts.
